The Courtship Their courtship started far from most
peoples' do for a couple reasons. To start with, they
took their relationship seriously and decided to court rather than
just date. The second reason is that they had a
trans-Atlantic relationship for the majority of our courtship as
Benjamin deployed to Iraq shortly after he and Roxanne met.
This is the courtship proposal (from Benjamin) and response
(from Roxanne):
Anne,
The time we had to get to know each other in Texas was cut
short,
but you've been very good about keeping in touch with me,
even when
I didn't have much time to write back. In the month
I've been been at
Al Kindi we have been able to talk much more
and have gotten to know
each other much better. As we have
talked more, we have been flirting
with thoughts of the future
and with 'What if?'s without having a
proper foundation.
Do not rebuke an older man but encourage him as you
would a father, younger men as brothers, older women
as mothers, younger women as sisters, in all purity.
1 Timothy 5:1-2 (ESV)
In the spirit of these verses, I would like to propose a
courtship,
which is not to be taken lightly. As a sister in
Christ, I will treat you in
all purity as we continue to
discover each other and grow in Christ,
with marriage as an
ultimate goal so as to better glorify Him in our
union, God
willing. Pray about this as needed and respond in your timing.
Humbly in Christ,
Jamin

"Hai," is Japanese for, "Yes." It
is an appropriate response for their relationship. Their
courtship ended one year after it started on February 14th when
Benjamin proposed marriage to Roxanne
The Engagement Weather kept
the romantic engagement plan from happening. Here's
Roxanne's account:
We were sitting on the couch and he playfully removed my
too-large purity
ring from my left ring finger to try it on. He
got it on with some force and I
jokingly took his hand and asked
him to be my husband. He said, “I suppose.”
I laid my head on
his shoulder and we sat quietly for a moment. He asked me,
“Would you be my wife?” I looked up at him and said, “Of
course!” He took
the ring from his sweater pocket and placed it
where my purity ring had been.
